Dastangoi: The Lost Art Form of Urdu Storytelling
The revival of an art form of storytelling lost for almost 70 years.
Dastangoi is the lost artform of storytelling. Mahmood Farooqui, an actor and a writer based in Delhi, revived this art form. Together with Danish Husain and Anusha Rizvi, he is putting this artform back on the performing arts’ map. This page is a support system for this artform informing members about the performance activities and other related news.
We have instituted a weekly Baithak for the art form’s practitioners, or those with interest in the art form and a desire to be a practitioner at a future stage. The Baithak will be a forum to discuss ideas about the art form, stories, show work-in-progress to peers, share interesting related info, and just catch up with each other.
The Baithak is not a performance. We’re not looking for an audience. So, please be there only if you wish to engage seriously with the art form.
The Dastangoi Baithak will be held every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 7pm to 9pm at Anusha and Mahmood’s residence. As it is a private residence, we expect you to RSVP us before coming. Please send a mail to Mahmood at mahmoodfarooqui at yahoo dot com or me at dan dot ayyaar at gmail dot com. You may even send us an sms. Our numbers are given at the bottom of our blog’s page.
If in any case we’re not having a Baithak on any Thursday, we’ll post it on the blog.
Thanks and looking forward to you all next Thursday.
